Average prices to ultimate customers, August 2026, preliminary (EIA Electric Power Monthly, Table 5.6.A, released 23 October 2026). Utilities class a customer as commercial or industrial by its industry code or by its demand and usage under a rate schedule, so a data center can sit in either column. Per GPU-hour at 2.5 to 2.8 kWh, a GB300-class GPU with its share of cooling (see what goes into a GPU-hour price). Large sites buy on their own contracts; state averages show the gap between states, not a site's tariff.

US data centers used about 4.4% of the country's electricity in 2023, 176 TWh, and are expected to use about 6.7% to 12% by 2028, 325 to 580 TWh (US Department of Energy on the LBNL report, 20 December 2024).
